The 6-pin J1708 female connector is without a locking ring. The connector without the locking ring is pressure fitted and is more suited for a test or diagnostic environment where the connector is plugged and unplugged regularly.

Application
The common application is to connect telematics or fleet management devices such as GPS Trackers to older J1708 6-pin round diagnostic port in medium and heavy duty vehicles model years from the early-to-mid-2000s.
This cable will also allow OBD2 diagnostic devices or scanners or fault code readers (with the appropriate software) to connect to commercial vehicles with the J1708 6 Pin port.
