The 6-Pin J1708 female connector is with a locking ring. Rotating the locking ring to the right place after plugging to a 6-Pin J1708 male receptacle assures that the connector won’t come unplugged accidentally.

Application
This cable allows you to connect your round 8 or 9 pin ELD or diagnostic cable to older 6 pin J1708 round diagnostic ports in medium and heavy duty vehicles model years from the early-to-mid-2000s.
One end has Deutsch HD16-6-12S-B010 6 pin J1708 female plug with locking ring - this plugs on to your factory diagnostic port located in trucks. The other end has HD10-9-1939P-P080 9 pin J1939 male receptacle - this will work with 8 or 9 pin ELDs or diagnostics cables.
